The crate is an 18mm tray with slots and you simply push the sides into the slots (They are a tight fit to enable little ones to be able to lift the crate by the handle and for it to stay intact) 
 
There is the option to buy just the apples if you have the crate from the Veg and crate set

Also, just to add, the crate works as a mark making tray without the sides on, so it's multi functional !
